A young girl from Mission Hills High School in Escondido, Lauren Wolford, tragically died after she was hit by a car while walking on the sidewalk. According to NBC News, Lauren Wolford, a Senior, was walking to school for dance practice around 11 a.m. on a Saturday. Just blocks from the high school campus, a black BMW left the road and hit her. An employee from the school was the first to respond, however, Lauren was pronounced dead at the scene.
Classmates and teachers have set up a memorial near the crash site, mourning the loss of the teen just weeks away from graduation. The school district released the following statement as the students returned to school after the accident: “There are many, many broken-hearted people at Mission Hills High School today, We will embrace our students as they come and help them get through all the emotion that will be confusing and frightening.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. If, after the investigation has concluded, the police determine that the driver of the BMW negligently left the road and caused the accident—whether because the driver was texting, speeding, intoxicated or otherwise at fault—then the family of the young girl who was killed should bring a wrongful death claim against the driver of the BMW.
The victim’s family should contact a California wrongful death attorney to discuss details and determine the possibility of seeking compensation. An experienced wrongful death attorney can assist in investigating the details of the case to determine fault and possible wrongful death damages. A wrongful death case helps a victim’s family obtain financial compensation after a tragedy has occurred to help them to handle the financial burdens of the incident.
We wish our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lauren Wolford. We hope they can receive the justice they deserve for their daughter’s wrongful death.
