According to the Los Angeles Times, around 5 p.m. on April 17, 2018, a 52-year old man was killed after he was knocked off his bike and thrown into oncoming traffic.
Lenny Trinh, the victim of this Burbank bicycle accident wrongful death, was riding his bike in the designated bike lane when a driver of a parked car opened the door just as Mr. Trinh rode past. The collision with the door caused Mr. Trinh to fall into the street. The Burbank Police Department reported that Trinh was then hit by a pick-up truck traveling on Alameda Avenue.
Mr. Trinh was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he unfortunately died from his injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the pick-up truck, as well as the driver of the parked car, did stay at the scene to speak with the police.
While currently it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in this incident, the collision is still under investigation. Because Mr. Trinh was properly in the designated bike lane when the accident occurred, it is unlikely he was at fault for the tragic accident. When an accident like this does happen, it is important that the incident is investigated to see if either driver was acting in a reckless way—for example if the pick-up driver was driving while intoxicated or driving too fast, or if the driver of the parked car was intoxicated or acting reckless in anyway when he opened the door.
The family members of Mr. Trinh should contact an experienced wrongful death attorney as they may be able to file a wrongful death claim against one or both of the drivers. A skilled Burbank wrongful death lawyer can assist in investigating the cause of the incident and seek funds for all possible wrongful death damages. Our hearts go out to the innocent victim of this tragic Burbank wrongful death bicycle accident.
