In early October, a teenage girl was hit in an intersection in Imperial Beach, California, while riding her bike. A white car entered the intersection of Elm Avenue and 9th Street striking the girl on her bike, causing this California bike accident. This intersection in Imperial Beach is a rather busy intersection, and residents believe that something more needs to be done to prevent future incidents like this from happening in the future.
Thankfully, the teen was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. The problem is that residents of the community say that this is going to continue until the city steps up to do something to protect people at this intersection.
10News.com reports on the busy intersection, “We have the school caution signs, but for some reason, people think caution means go faster instead of slow down,” said Cheryl Warren who has lived at the corner of the intersection for four years. “There have been tons of car accidents.”
Residents are hopeful that the city will at least put up stop signs on 9th Street. The City Manager, Andy Hall said that the residents should contact his office for setting up a meeting for the neighborhood.
California’s Basic Speed Law
California’s Basic Speed Law is that a person should take the surrounding conditions into account when driving and adjust their speed accordingly. One of the areas where this law takes effect with a reduced speed is around children. This law means that school zones should be observed and that drivers should use extra caution in areas where children may be, as children can often go into the street quite unexpectedly. The same is true for blind intersections. Speed limits in intersections with no stop signs are 15 mph.
When you are injured in an accident where the other driver was not observing the Basic Speed Law, they were probably at fault for your accident. Talking to a personal injury attorney is in your best interest to protect your rights and get compensation for your injuries and the impact the accident has had on your personal and professional life.
